This Alt-Mama Giveaway Game is called: Who Are You People, Anyway?

I’ve been checking my traffic (kind of obsessively) since launching Alt-Mama, and I’m delighted to report that the numbers are great. I’m so glad you’re all stopping by! Thing is, we must still just be pouring the drinks at this party… Cuz for the number of you that there are hanging out here, the room is pretttty quiet. And something tells me I’m not the only loud person here. I figure y’all must just need an ice-breaker, a proper opportunity to introduce yourselves. I, for one, would love to know who I’m talking to. I’d also love to get you talking back.

So, I’m busting out a bribe.

If it’s your first time here, welcome! If not, welcome back! Wanna play my Giveaway Game for a chance to win some sweet schwag?

Here’s how it’s done: comment on this post, and tell me something about yourself. Don’t be shy. Share with the class. Are you a mom? A blogger? An enthusiast of some kind? Whatever you feel like saying, have at it. Can be a sentence or a paragraph-- it's all good. Confessions are cool, too, if they leave you feeling lighter. No judgments in the Alt-Mama zone! I know you’re funny, smart, engaging, cool bunch, and I can’t wait to read what you have to say!

Don’t forget to put your email address in the appropriate field while commenting. No one will see it but me, and that’s how I’ll let you know if you’re one of our two lucky winners.

Wait, what? I haven’t told you what the prizes are yet? Where are my manners? Check this out:

Maple Shade Kids serves up adorable décor designs and accessories for kids’ rooms, and is run by—yeah crafty ladies!— Wanda Hirsch, mom to a ten-year-old daughter and seven-year-old identical twin boys. She discovered her talents by making items for her children’s rooms, working in her New Hampshire farmhouse… and simply kept going.  She creates her beautiful wares from a combination of FSC-certified wood and rescued wood (FSC certified wood is sustainably harvested wood coming from well managed forests and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council).

I commissioned Wanda to create a shelf and a hook rack for Kaspar’s room, and LOVE love love what she made. Everyone comments on these sweet, unique pieces. They’re instant-heirlooms. I love them (did I mention that)?

Wanda’s now generously offering two items up for you Alt-Mama readers! The first is a set of Owl Art Clips (or the birds, if you prefer), and the second is an 8-inch Raccoon Wall Art Collage. Click on the highlighted words to get measurement details and multiple views.

So get to it! Drop a line in the comments and say hello! I’ll put your names into a hat and choose two winners next Tuesday, July 5th (I’ll announce the winners here and then email you directly). Good luck!

Hi! Pick me! I'm planning my baby girl's nursery as we speak, I'm due right before Xmas! This is my 1st baby, but I plan to be a fun mom with a sense of humour. You're doing a wonderful job with the website, I like the colors and attitude!

I'm a stay-at-home Mom transitioning to a working mom. I think about becoming a blogger but haven't done it yet. And I would love the Owl clips to hang up my daughter's creations!

I'm a Mom of 2 little girls, an artist, and an iced coffee addict.

I have a set of Wanda's Leaf art clips in my youngest daughter's room and have been seriously considering a set of clips for her big sister! LOVE Maple Shade Kids!

Hi Taylor! I've been reading your blog since you were writing on Project Pregnancy at parenting.com
I really like your approach to life and being a mom, and enjoyed reading how you handled your move from NY to Austin. My best friend has looked into moving to Austin (we live in Northern CA) so it has been fun to see how you're adjusting. I was interested to see today that you are considering adoption. My husband and I have one five year old daughter, and for a variety of reasons have decided not to have any more biological children, but we have thought about adoption as well. Anyway, I guess that's enough about me. :) So glad you started this blog too! Keep writing, and I'll try to keep commenting when I can.

hi :) I'm a first time mom and my son was born June 7th 2011 :) still grappling with the idea of being a parent. I'm 27 and going back to work full time soon. My husband will be a stay at home daddy when I do go back and even though I'd rather stay home I'm excited about him taking care of our son :). Also those clips and raccoon are super cute. I love the art style and I love supporting artists :)

Hi Taylor!

Let's see, I'm a freelance writer, editor and artist who is currently potty training a two year old and therefore has no time left at all! =)

I'm terrible about commenting these days because of my schedule; I read then move on. I can't even find time to update my own blog!

However, I do read. =)

Hi, Taylor! Well, let's see...I do not currently have any children, however, my husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 3 years now. But we are not going to let that get us down! We have a 3-year old niece and a 6-year old nephew to share all of our love with...plus you never know what could happen! And it's very possible for adoption to come into our future, too! :) Keep up the excellent work with your blog! Although I may not always have something to say, I am very interested in listening! :D

Hi Taylor!

I have been reading you over at Parenting and decided today to check out your blog. My little girl is 11.5 weeks! We are so lucky to have her after trying to get pregnant for almost 3 years.

I feel for you and your little boy about the allergies. I grew up with very bad environmental allergies (dogs, cats, horses, pollen, greass, etc) and have just now entered the world of food allergies and medical allergies as well. I am glad that you have figured out Kasper's allergies thus far and that he is feeling better!

Wow! What great responses. Thanks for sharing your tidbits and playing the Alt-Mama Giveaway Game. Artists and writers and mamas and grandmother's and mamas-to-be (great attitude Chelsea! I can't wait to hear how your baby makes his or her way to you, whether old school or adoption style! I love that Suzanne posted right after you, too, having become pregnant after three years of trying--- super awesome!). Great crowd, and my kind of party!

So, I wrote your names on slips of paper and had Aaron randomly select our winners, blind, from a hat. Our lucky ladies are Erin Rippy (art clips) and Sandra Powers (raccoon wall art collage)-- congrats! I'll email you for your mailing addresses and let Wanda know where to send the goods.

I'm going to continue hosting fun giveaways on the site, so stop by soon and play again!

Thanks for reading Alt-Mama.

xoxo Taylor
